It is good to get feedback

It is good to hear from previous participants and to get feedback from them, what they are doing, how they are using the techniques I have taught them.

Many of my past participants will take further courses with me, perhaps the NLP Master Practitioner, or the Memory or Mind Map courses after taking the PhotoReading course.

So I must be doing something right.

It does not matter what country I am in, nor which language the participants speak, with a good translator, and with me getting feedback on how well the participants are understanding what I am teaching, continually adapting the content of the course to the cultural and understanding of that group, right down to the individuals, I get results that they can take away with them.

So, I am sure Fabio from Italy (see NLP Practitioner, VICENZA, Italy) will not object if I give the feedback here. It has really made my Xmas, a Christmas present I would like more of.

Our internal voice need to shut-up too

In my previous article I wrote about keeping your mouth shut , something I am doing more day by day.

But the more I think about what I wrote, the more I have thought that I should not have expressed what I said.

In the last twenty-four hours, I have thought about what I wrote.

Should I have said this?

Should I have said that?

What will people think?

I have had this internal dialog, an internal voice going on and on and on. It just would not stop. In NLP we will call this Auditory Digital, see Eye Accessing Cues.

The more I have thought about the previous article the more I have criticized myself, the more I have found fault in what I wrote, the deeper the hole I dug myself.

How often do we criticize ourselves? How often do we build mountains out of molehills? How often do we say to ourselves “I wish I had said this or that”, or “I wish I had done that”.

We keep talking to ourselves. More often than not, our own internal dialog is much longer than the actual incident. And, the incident, the history, never changes, but we make ourselves feel bad about it.

Not only do we talk to ourselves about the past, but we also talk to ourselves about the future. What can happen here, what can happen there. If I say this, then ……. If I do this, then ………

Often people with fears and phobias will practice the fear or phobia before the incident takes place, actually experiencing the phobia as if it was happening, not only experiencing it, but the more they talk to themselves about it, the worse it gets.

If I criticised you now about the style of clothes you were wearing, your hair cut, the food your eat, and I went on and on. What would you do to me? What would you tell me to do?

Yes. Go away, or words to that effect.

Yet we do it to ourselves. We go on and on and on, criticising ourselves, complaining about what we have done, what we shall or could be doing, and making ourselves worse.

Why do it?  Why make ourselves bad? Stop it. Stop that internal dialog.

One of the first cures the damaging internal dialog taking over our lives, is to realise that it is happening, that we are talking to ourselves, and then tell that voice to “SHUT UP“.

Change the voice in what it is saying, make it more positive.

Change the tonality. Make the voice into a sexy, sensual voice.

Change the voice into that of Micky Mouse.

Does the critical voice change and the results it produces change?

If that does not work, open the teeth slightly, and push the tip of the tongue between the teeth and bite gently.

What happens to the voice? It stops.

We have a saying in English when we should not have said what we have said, and that is :-

“I wish I had bitten my tongue.”  meaning, “I wish I had said nothing.”

A third method of quietening that internal dialog is to push the tip of the tongue against the roof of the mouth, hard.

What happens to that voice now?

It is good to talk to ourselves, often it is the only voice that talks sense from all those other people around us giving us “best” advice. It is good to plan, to review our past, but when it takes over, makes things bad for us, we must tell it to

SHUT UP

English Sayings NLP Thoughts

Keep your mouth shut

There is a saying in English which says “keep your mouth shut.

It is what it says, to stay quiet, not to say anything, to keep your thoughts to yourself.

Often it is the best medicine, the best thing to do, because you can “dig the hole deeper“, you can create situations, arguments which get worse and worse, driving the conversation deeper and deeper, entrenching people firmly into their beliefs.

I have found myself on many occasions where I have been in conversation, maybe in the training room, maybe in debates, and I have said something which I believe to be true from my experience, from my life, from my culture, from my religion, only to suddenly realise I have said something wrong, to person or persons I am in conversation with, who disagree with my ideas, as my understanding, my culture does not fit theirs.

It is time like this that I wish I had kept my mouth shut, not said what I did. For now I have upset someone.

But then sometimes, like a fool, I will “stick to my guns“, I will “stand my corner“, I will argue my case, defend my point of view. Not only do I defend my argument, but so does the person I am in conversation with stick with theirs.

What happens next? An argument ensues. People start to get upset, and the more upset they become the “deeper the hole gets“, the worse the argument gets.

I have lost count of the times I have entered a debate, a conversation, only to realise I should not be involved, because our views are so wide, our understandings, our beliefs, our cultures are so wide, that they will never, with all the good will in the world, merge.

I come across this sometimes in my courses. One participant is so anti the subject, does not believe that the subject is right, that the subject is against their morals and culture, that nothing I say is correct.

Why did they enroll on the course in the first place?

It is then that I will suggest that the person leaves the course, and I will refund their fees. (Subject to this occurring on the first day.)

Sometimes I get emails where I am attacked, because my, like others, methods of delivering the subject matter does not fit the ideals of the writer.

I will never win.

If I say black they will say white. If I say white they will say black.

If I say “I like that“, they will say “No, it is terrible“.

Then there are the people who always know better, have done better, been there or done more, always have the best solution, and there can be no other. They do not believe that others can have their point of view, beliefs or culture.

These people know the best restaurants, the best shops, the best way to get from one place to another. They will know which is the best product to buy, the best flower to plant in the garden, and if you say different, then you are in trouble.

I am aware of these people, and sometimes hear myself becoming one, and have to stop myself, to keep my mouth shut.

Yes, one should express a point of view, it should be everyones right, and it should be everyones right to be given that right to express an opinion, and have it that opinion considered.

But when it will lead to arguments, to bad feelings, rightly or wrongly, I will walk away, and keep my mouth shut.

Each and everyone of us will have our own “cat on the mat“, our own beliefs, ways of doing things, as we process information, go on that transderivational search, to make sense of our world.

The trouble is, some peoples cats are so big, they get so involved in their cat, that result is they can only see their cat, it obstructs the view of a big world of possibilities out there.

Our internal voice need to shut-up too

A mention on TV

Today I was sent a link to a video of an interview made for TV by Mehpare Şayan Kileci of GAP Consultancy in Turkey.

For my Turkish readers I have placed a link for you to view the video, and perhaps tell me what is being said.

I know I am mentioned towards the end of the interview, and it would be good to know if it is good things. Knowing Mehpare, it would nothing else but good.

So yes Jean-Daniel, (click to see previous article) it would be better if I spoke another language other than English, then I would understand the video.

An email reply

This morning I awoke very early again with the first call of the day for prayers from a nearby mosque, and went onto the internet and received the following email from Jean-Daniel Antenau, jeandanielantenau@yahoo.fr, about language and reading.

With nothing better to do, I have posted my reply here, so that it may help others or promote a debate on the subject.

Email from Jean-Daniel Antenau, Quote :-

Hi there,
I just came to get some information about NLP. I’m french and went on some site by Phillip Holt, a friend of yours.
This man pretends reading dictionaries at the speed of 30,000 words/min in order to understand the general meaning of any book in foreign language ! Interesting isn’t it ? I was interested.
So I visited his place on internet and the French translation was… at best funny, at worst not understandable !
Then I visited your page : it was the same pathetic story !
Hey ! Ho !  What is this all about ? Just making fun of everything ? Aren’t there more serious businesses to do of your lives in these times ?

My Reply :-

Dear Jean-Daniel,

Thank you for your input.

I had used a Google tool which translates a web page for you. (see web pages in question, www.nlpnow.net).

As I have written, and freely admit, I do not speak any other language other than English. I make no excuse, I have a problem with languages. I believe it is due to the learning of language/s before the age of twelve, the development of the brain during this time, that is the Broca’s area, the Wernicke’s area, and other language-processing areas.

There is also the motivation, the desire to learn other languages. Again, I freely admit, I do not have the motivation to learn another language, and that is no disrespect to your language French, or your culture.

You can say some people are good a running, so good that they enter and win medals at the Olympics, others have two left feet, and never run, even for a bus.

For me to become an Olympic champion in all the languages of the countries I teach in and visit, I would have to spend a lot of time and practice. Perhaps I am not motivated or willing to do so.

I have difficulties, so I prefer to spend my time studying the human, the brain, learning skills, teaching skills, and how I can best deliver and share these skills to as many people as I can, all over the world.

As I said, I have a problem, I do not speak the languages, French, Italian, Turkish, Arabic, Chinese etc, so I use translators (click to see some of my translators), whom I can trust, or think I can. It is only from positive feedback from people like yourself, that I know if the translation work. In the case of the web pages you mention, your email is the first in five years I have had mentioning the translation problem you have highlighted. Thank you, I appreciate your feedback.

At least I have tried to convey or pass-on my skills in PhotoReading, Memory, NLP, Hypnosis Mind Maps to others of other nationalities, cultures, beliefs if they so wish to learn.

Yes there are many people who teach the same skills who speak the native languages of French, Italian, Turkish, Arabic and Chinese etc, many who have copied my work, or followed the same route as I have to learn directly from the originators themselves, like Tony Buzan, Paul Scheele, Paul McKenna, Richard Bandler, John Grinder, Ormond McGill, Gianni Golfera, and more, and with their blessing or permission, teach these skills.

Yes my work involves laughter, fun, and does I hope my web site http://blog.ohpoopoo.com/, that is in my experience the best way of learning, with emotion, laughter, happiness.

At least you laughed. “Hey ! Ho !”

Why not go and find a French speaking teacher of PhotoReading, and try the system? Thousands of people all over the world have, and have proved it to themselves that PhotoReading a book, a dictionary helps in their understanding.

I have demonstrated this technique often in courses I have given, PhotoReading a book in a language I do not speak, and giving specific answers to questions asked of me. Can you do it? Do you know how to do it? Have you even tried?

I doubt it. I have spent many years practising and doing.

110 years ago, man could not fly by mechanical means, then two Americans, or a Brazilian, or a British person, whichever history books you have read, put together some twine, wood, fabric, placed an engine in it, and flew some 30 yards/meters.

Then man could fly.

Since that time, new developments have been developed, new materials have been introduced, so much so that the Airbus 380 has been created, allowing people to go from one side other the world to the other in one hop.

It is the same in reading, perhaps you were taught at a tender age of three I expect, how to read, word by word, and that is it, that is how far you have got. You are still flying the Wright brothers aircraft The Flyer, perhaps you should upgrade to the A380, learn from a Certified PhotoReading Trainer like myself, who have helped open minded people to get more out of their life, to learn and stop critising others and their beliefs and abilities.

The Wright Brothers first aircraft, The Flyer

Being able to absorb information at such high speed, means people do have more time to spend on the more serious side of modern living.

But like me and languages, if you are not willing to try it, you will never know or learn.

Again thank you for your input, I really do appreciate comments and feedback, good, bad, constructive or whatever.

What we did with the chocolate cake

The big chocolate cake I was given, was carefully carried back to Mehpare’s house where I am staying. I know just the thing, we can have a party. Mehpare‘s children Ata and Basak, will love that.

Half an hour after arriving home, there is a knock on my apartment door.

There is Ata with a drawing he had coloured for me, and a present that Basak had made me.

So, there was nothing for it, but to have a ‘birthday’ party, light the candles, light the sparklers, cut the cake, and eat it.

Ata, Basak, Mehpare, Gul the housekeeper, and myself ate a piece of the cake and played some games.

So much left. Oh well I am sure Mehpare‘s husband Necdet will enjoy a slice or two after I have gone to Bahrain

Another Chocolate Cake

I love chocolate cake.

It has been an exercise I have given myself whilst training, to see how quickly I could get a chocolate cake to appear from the participants within the course.

Over the last few months I have not played so much with this task, thinking about my health and my diet.

In my last courses in Gaziantep, Turkey, providing NLP training, I must have unconsciously sent a message of chocolate cake to the participants, for surely I planted a seed that grew.

A chocolate cake was not in my mind as an outcome.

Therefore no chocolate came, well apart from the one from the Nippon Hotel in Istanbul.

It was after working 1-2-1 with a client on Monday evening, with a young man with a personal issue, that a very large chocolate cake arrived, a thank you gift from him and his mother.

What am I going to do with that I wonder?

I would have a heart attack if I ate it all myself. I am hungry, so I am sure I will find a way.

NLP Travels

The Journey

To day I start another leg of what should be a three month tour, giving training in a number of countries, UK, Turkey, Italy and Bahrain.

Where and when I will be at any time, I just do not know, as due to no fault of my own, plans change. Three of my courses were canceled by the organisers in Istanbul, with little notice, leaving me with a travel plan of flights, paid for and confirmed, to be in a city and country with nothing to do, where no-body loves me, not earning money, instead costing me money.

Like a road, starting from a given place, we start a journey, planing to reach a destination.

In the UK, some major roads are given the prefix ‘A’, will start in London, developed centuries ago, probably by the Romans, ending in towns and cities which would have important communication and strategic importance. The ‘A1’ London to Edinborough, ‘A2’ London to Dover, ‘A3’ London to Portsmouth, ‘A4’ London to Bath, ‘A5’ London to Holyhead. They all have an end

As we plan our journey, we may look at a map, picking out the places we must pass, the towns, the junctions of other roads, which will tell us if we are on track, and how our journey is going. From this information, we will estimate how long the journey will take as a whole, and as we progress, we will be able to know if will make the timetable.

We may arrange to meet friends, colleagues, contacts on our journey, and give specific dates and times for these meetings, hoping that we are not delayed and that the others will turn-up. How frustrating it is to plan a journey only to find at the last minute that these people have canceled for a multitude of reasons, some genuine, some just an excuse.

As we progress the journey, we may find that there are road works, the road is being repaired or changed. These may slow down our journey, and often as we pass the road works, all we see are the barriers that have been put up, but no people working there.

Sometimes due to an accident, major road construction, we are diverted via another route. Sometimes these diversions are well sign posted, making our journey a little longer, but easy. Sometimes the diversions are not there, or have been removed, leaving us to find our own way, floundering, wondering around in a mist of confusion.

Often as we continue, forever aiming to get to our destination, we see and meet people who may be trying to get to the same place, or a place on or near the route we are taking. We may feel it is right to give these people a lift, help them on their journey, after all, it can be companionship, friendship, business. Often, these people take us off our route, take a diversion, from the journey we had planned to take. Perhaps they are wanting to go to the seaside for a holiday, to seek new business, a new life, to attend a meeting themselves.

Often have we given such a person a lift, we have been invited to become part of their dreams, to become part of their life, business, they tell us that they will keep in contact, telephone, communicate, yet like dreams they rarely come true, they are forgotten when they reach their destination, and we come back to our own journey, reality. Yet we had spent time and perhaps money in being with these people. It is good to know that we have helped others reach their goal.

No matter how much we plan, things can go wrong, we have breakdowns, and we may have to seek help, or repair the faults ourselves, either temporary or long lasting. There will always be a way to solve our problems. If we can solve the problem ourselves, we can often save a fortune, as people will often take advantage of our temporary breakdowns. But sometimes we are lucky to find a good person who for no gain to themselves, help us through the hours of need.

We are and should be continually adjusting our route on the journey, our timings, our plans, to be adjustable, but how many of us are just too busy to allocate time for these diversions, breakdowns?

How many of us allow time to notice the places of interest on our journey, let alone allow time to visit them?

There are so many places of interest on a journey, the majority not marked on the map we made our plan from (visit The Map is not the Territory). We need to keep our eyes open, to use ‘Phillip’s Sausage’, Win Wenger’s ‘Sidebands’, to notice the unusual, the things we are not usually aware of.

Perhaps visiting the places of interest will enrich our life and knowledge, even if the information has no relevance to our present journey, it may seal a previous outstanding issue, or prepare us for something in the future.

How many of us decide to take the easy route, keep to the ‘A’ roads, take no diversions?

How many of us expect others to drive us to our destination, letting them take the risks, frustrations, heartaches?

Sometimes we have to allow others to help us, like we would for them.

A journey can be so much more fun, exciting and enlightening if we take the ‘B’ roads sometimes, the minor roads, see and experience things from a different perspective.

No matter what happens, a journey will end. Some roads have a beginning and an end. Some roads short, just a street, some roads are long covering many miles or kilometers, towns, cities, countries, continents, allowing us experience and learn so much.

Some roads have no beginnings or endings, the ring roads, the major motorway around London for example, the M25, they are a continuous circle. If we stay on these roads we will see or learn nothing new. We must have a plan, know which exit to take, be willing to get off, and change our route.

It always rains in London

Always?

It is often said to me in conversations with people I meet around the world, that it always rains in London. They say that they should take their umbrella with them.

I could challenge them with the NLP Meta Model UNIVERSAL QUANTIFIER, but invite them to experience London themselves to find out that it does not rain that often.

This was reminded to me whilst in Istanbul over the last couple of weeks, when it seemed to be raining a lot, and I used my umbrella.

It always rains in Istanbul.

Altı (6) Aşamalı Yeniden Çerçevelendirme, süreç

                                                                                                                                             English version

Hypnosis – Expectations (Hipnoz – Beklentiler)

Hypnosis – What is it? (Hipnoz – Tanımı)

Hypnosis – A natural State (Hipnoz – Doğal bir Durum)
